Super Counselor: Christine McInnis, North High School, Torrance, Calif.
Nominator: Kindra Anderson, student
Academic Counselor Christine McInnis is dedicated to the success of all of the students at North High School. From suggesting classes to finding financial aid, she is tireless in her efforts to help students reach their goals.
“She tries to make whatever you want possible,” said student Kindra Anderson, who, with McInnis’s guidance, has been accepted to her top school, Oklahoma Christian University. “I got into my university partly because she took time to talk to me, make a game plan, and help me with applications.”
Besides helping students get into the schools they want, McInnis also strives to ensure they have the financial means to attend. She frequently emails North High School students about scholarships and will even point out specific scholarships for which students are eligible.
“I think that if I did not get all her emails I would not have applied for a lot of scholarships,” Anderson said. “She helps make college affordable.”
Anderson said that McInnis always has her door open to students and that she “always makes time to sit down with you and discuss your future plans.” McInnis’ individualized approach with students and her willingness to go above and beyond makes her a Super Counselor.
