The Hispanic College Fund

The Hispanic College Fund gives scholarships to Hispanic high school and college students. According to their Web site, more than 80 percent of the scholarships are awarded to business, science, technology, engineering and math majors.

Scholarships are for U.S. citizens or permanent residents with GPAs of at least 3.0.

Each specific scholarship program has different criteria, so consult the Web site to see which one’s best for you.

The Hispanic College Fund awarded $3 million this year to more than 590 students nationwide.


The Jackie Robinson Foundation

The Jackie Robinson Foundation was founded by Jackie’s wife Rachel in
the ’70s to help preserve his memory. The foundation gives minority students four-year scholarships for higher education.

Each winner is awarded $7,500 and becomes a member of the foundation’s program for education and leadership. The program also offers winners a peer and professional mentor, and placement into summer internships and full-time employment.

To apply for a scholarship, you must be a U.S. citizen and a high school senior. Your application package should have a letter of recommendation and a transcript. You must take the SAT or ACT, and all materials for your application need to be mailed in one package together, according to the Web site.

The Ron Brown Scholar Program

The Ron Brown Scholar Program was created to give African American youth academic scholarships, service opportunities and leadership experiences.

Ron Brown scholars are given $40,000 ($10,000 per year for four years) that can be used at any college or university. The Web site notes that scholars also receive mentoring to help them continue to succeed in college and in the working world.

The program is named after the former secretary of commerce. Send all your materials together; scholarships are open to current high school seniors.


The Xerox Technical Minority Scholarship Program

The Xerox Technical Minority Scholarship Program offers scholarships from $1,000 to $10,000, depending on tuition balance, academic excellence and classification. This scholarship is to help students pursue technology careers.

Eligible applicants should have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and be U.S. citizens of African American, Asian, Pacific Island, Native American, Native Alaskan or Hispanic descent. They should be full-time undergrad or grad students in technical fields.

To apply for a scholarship, complete an application on the Web site, have your college financial aid office complete the bottom portion, attach your résumé, and submit to:

The United Negro College Fund

The United Negro College Fund’s more than 400 scholarships and internship programs help thousands of students attend college.

The Wells Fargo/UNCF Scholarship is open to college sophomores, juniors and seniors, as well as graduate students. Scholarship values are up to $2,000, and eligible majors include accounting, finance and various types of engineering.
