West Virginia University’s tradition of outstanding academic achievement includes 25 Rhodes Scholars, 26 Goldwater Scholars, and 16 Truman Scholars. Academic Life

The freshman class boasted an average ACT composite score of 23 and an SAT combined average of 1072. Excellent teachers attract high-quality students to WVU: 86% hold doctorates or first-professional degrees

Campus Life

Faculty live side-by-side with students in the residence halls, serving as teachers and mentors. WVUp All Night is an award-winning initiative that provides free food, fun, and socializing on weekends. The Mountaineer Parents Club connects over 13,000 WVU families.

Facilities and Resources

The Downtown Library Complex is a twenty-first century information center, while a new Life Sciences Building is equipped with the latest in classroom and laboratory technology. The popular Student Recreation Center includes multiple sports courts, pools, and a 50-foot indoor climbing wall.

Athletics / Sports

A member of the NCAA, WVU competes in the Big East Athletic Conference at the Division I-A level in 17 intercollegiate varsity sports. WVU makes regular postseason bowl appearances in football, and made an Elite 8 appearance in men's basketball in 2005. Visit: http://www.wvu.edu/Athletics/.

Financial Aid / Tuition

Awards more than $160 million annually in financial aid, and tuition is below the national average for four-year public universities. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and submit by February 15.


West Virginia residents must have at least a 2.0 GPA and either a composite ACT score of 19 or a combined verbal and math SAT score of 910. Nonresidents must have at least a 2.25 GPA and either an ACT composite score of 20 or a combined verbal and math SAT score of 950.
