As a Furman student, you will be guaranteed an individualized, four-year pathway that integrates classroom learning with experiences in research, internships, international travel and community-centered learning. This immersive, hands-on approach empowers you to personalize your education, taking a journey of self-discovery that will allow you to explore your ideas, refine your goals and shape your future.
Yout intellectual journey will be supported by a community of mentors comprised of faculty, staff, alumni, and community members. These mentors are more than advisors - eac has the power to uncover your purpose and passion.
This can be your journey. This is the Furman Advantage.
We believe the residential experience at Furman is a critical part of your education. That's why we provide housing for all students for all four years. You'll be part of a close-knit community, where academics take priority and where your experiences broaden your perspective and teach invaluable lessons about collaboration and empathy. No matter where you're from, you'll feel at home at Furman.
We have 12 residence halls, ranging from four-person suites to traditional dormitories. Some of our residence halls are coed, but men and women live on different floors with separate bath facilities.
If you're a first-year student, you'll be paired with a roommate in one of seven freshman residence halls. Our detailed questionnaire helps us match you with someone who has similar interests, a process that has proved very successful. Not knowing your roommate may seem intimidating at first, but it's a great way to meet new friends and get involved in new activities. Though you'll have the option to choose your roommate as a sophomore, many students end up keeping their same roommate from the beginning to the end of their academic careers.
Athletics / Sports
With 20 NCAA Division Iteams and dozens of club and intramural squads, it's easy to find a game on our campus—even if you just want to sit in the stands and root for the home team. Our varsity and club teams have won national championships, and students earn serious campus bragging rights through our competitive intramural leagues. In fact, about two-thirds of our students participate in intramural or club sports, making our recreational sports program one of the most active in the nation.
If you'd prefer to work up a sweat without joining a team, you can stay in shape at the Herman W. Lay Physical Activities Center. It's always packed with students taking advantage of our first-rate workout space. Take a dip in the pool. Ride a stationary bike. Or join a pickup game on our basketball court.
Our approach to the admission process allows us to gain insight about who you are, both academically and personally. We're interested in discovering students who seek academic challenge, leadership, service, commitment to the community, and civic engagement. We hope you take this opportunity to showcase yourself and your abilities.
