College care package guide

Sending something to a loved one at school? Here are easy care packages you can create!

College care package guide

This post is for everyone out there missing someone in their life who is off at college. Whether it’s your best friend, sibling, significant other or child, check out these care package ideas and make your collegiate students week!

The Flu Season Package:

Not to scare anyone, but when you’re living close quarters with other students who are perpetually exhausted with weakened immune systems from aforementioned exhaustion and stress, every season is flu season. It’s always good to have medicine and other cold necessities on hand so reinforce this with these items.

  • Tissues: Always helpful whether it's cold season or your college student lives in an eternally snowy, cold area.
  • Hand Sanitizer: I would argue that colleges could have more germs than a elementary school classroom. There’s just a lot going on all the time and you need hand sanitizer to keep germs at bay and from getting passed around.
  • Disinfectant wipes: These are great for spills and regular cleaning but are even greater for when one roommate is sick and the other isn’t. Basically, disinfect your stuff immediately to avoid also getting sick.
  • Chicken Noodle Soup: Whether it's canned or in packet form, this is the perfect way to remind your sick loved one of home, and sometimes that’s all the medicine you need.
  • Cough Drops/Throat Lozenges: Ever had a presentation but no voice? Stock up on these to avoid that problem and soothe your throat when needed.
  • Chap Stick: Colds, cold weather, and dryness all lead to chapped lips. Add this treat and eliminate one thing your loved one might suffer from.
  • General Meds: Advil, Tylenol, Theraflu, and NyQuil are all popular treatments, choose what you thinks works best.

Dude-Oriented Care Package:

You'll find that many care package ideas are targeted towards girls so here’s a way to switch it up and surprise the guys in your life.

  • Sports or Entertainment Magazine: Magazines are the perfect study break and good for relaxing before bed. It takes away from the stress of textbook reading and offers you an easy read targeted towards interest.
  • Posters: Some guys just aren't as good at decorating dorms as girls are. Their walls are often bare or sparsely decorated. Get them a poster of their favorite movie, TV show or band.
  • Homemade food: Verify that this is something that’s not going to go bad or fall apart in the mail and after that, whatever you send is sure to remind your guy of home. Other food items you can’t go wrong with are; candy, ramen, mac and cheese.
  • DVD's and Videogames: Raid the $5 bin at Walmart and send these your loved ones way to remind them to take a break, socialize and have fun.

Home Away From Home Package:

For those who are homesick, sometimes a care package is all it takes to be able to get through until Thanksgiving or other breaks.

  • Items they might have run out of: All college kids appreciate that beginning of the semester shopping trip that gets them all of their necessities. However, about two or three months in they start to run out of things. You can mail them their usual toiletries, medicines, and dorm snacks.
  • Gift Cards: Your college student might be getting a little broke around mid semester. Gas cards, grocery cards, and other cards are great little surprises.

Movie Night Package:

College kids on a budget can be a little strapped for extra cash at times. Give them the feeling of going out to the movies right from their dorm room. They can invite friends and have a relaxing night after a long week.

  • Microwavable Popcorn
  • DVD's
  • Amazon Gift Cards/iTunes Gift Cards
  • Candy (Movie box size)
  • Blanket
