Lehman College

Lehman College was established in 1968 as an independent college of The City University of New York and named for Herbert H. Lehman, the great New York Governor, U.S. Senator, philanthropist, and humanitarian.  Lehman serves the Bronx and surrounding region as an intellectual, economical and cultural center.

Academic Life

Lehman is a public, comprehensive, coeducational liberal arts college with more than 100 undergraduate and graduate degree programs and specializations. Academic programs range from science, business, teacher education, and social work to recreation education and nursing.

Campus Life

Lehman’s students come from more than 90 countries around the world. Lehman College has a very active campus with over 20 clubs and organizations which allow students to pursue social, academic and creative interests. Students can also participate in sixteen Division III NCAA teams and intramural activities. The Office of Campus Life sponsors leadership training retreats, various seminars, and new student orientation programs, as well as thematic activities, such as Black History Month.

Facilities and Resources

A 37-acre, tree-lined campus located in the northwest Bronx, Lehman is noted for its distinctive blend of Collegiate Gothic and modern architecture; 15 buildings include a Center for the Performing Arts, a College Art Gallery, four venues for theatre and dance, a Speech and Hearing Clinic, and The APEX, a world-class facility for sports and recreation, and a new science building is underway.
