You likely live near a community college. You may even know some students there. But have you considered stepping on campus?
Here are four ways to use a community college even while you’re in high school.
1. Take college classes while in high school
Ask your high school counselor about any dual enrollment programs through the local community college. You may be able to take classes that will count for both high school and college credit.
2. Look into transfer opportunities
If you’ve ever thought about attending a community college before transferring to a four-year school, set up a meeting with the community college’s transfer office.
Ask what programs and classes most easily transfer. Ask about the college’s articulation agreements, and for success stories from other students.
3. Interview an instructor
Community college instructors can be great resources. Ask to job shadow or interview one.
Ask them about their own educational paths, the traits they see in successful students, and if they have any internship ideas to pass along.
4. Take a look at the costs
Even if you’re set on a four-year school, take a look at how much your local community college costs.
You might be surprised at the savings of attending a two-year college first.
