As for difficulty, so far I've found it easier to earn local scholarships rather than national ones. Talk to your high school guidance counselor to talk to him/her about scholarships.

Different scholarships look for different qualifications. Often, they're looking for a well-rounded student: high-achieving student who is involved in extra-curriculars, volunteering, and so on. Some scholarships are specific for students who have financial need in addition to being high-achieving, but not all of them are.

Getting scholarships vary in difficulty. Just do many different activities to help your qualifications when answering extracurriculars and other things like that. Also, just keep looking for scholarships and apply to as many as you can.

Honestly, the best tip for getting a scholarship I've heard is applying, to each and every one you find at every level. Apply for everything from institutional scholarships to federal scholarships and make sure you know how to sell yourself. Get help having people read over your applications to see how you could maybe improve your desirablity.
