Try mystudentedge.com. See if that place will work for you. Another one my friend told me about was commonknowledgescholarship.com or something like that. I hope that it helps you.

The scholarship websites I go to most frequently are zinch.com and fastweb.com, although I'm not so sure how many scholarships are available for sophomores on those websites. Maybe you could try talking to your high school counselor, see if they have any recommendations or suggestions?

I would recommend against websites such as Fastweb and Zinch. There is far too many people on there since they are the most popular, so unless you have something EXTREMELY special to set you apart, your odds are not very good. I would check with your school guidance councilor, as they tend to get things in all the time. Another great untapped resource is local businesses, such as McDonalds, Lowes, Kohl’s, Home Depot, etc. The regional stores usually pick a winner from the local area, so apply! But I agree that your luck will be better as a junior or senior. Kudos for looking early, though!

The scholarship websites that people have already posted here are good ones, some of which I use. Talking to your school counselor is good too when looking for local scholarships (these are ideal choices!!)

Because you are a sophomore, you are correct in that there aren't as many available to you. What you can do now (and it would be smart to--I wish I had done this) is look into scholarships offered to high school seniors planning to attend college (a majority of scholarships out there are offered to seniors planning to enroll in college the next year) to see what the scholarships demand.
Read what some of the essay questions are out there. Look at what some of the other requirements or demands are. Then start preparing. Maybe during the summer you actually write some of these essays and save them. Maybe you can use them in two years, or at the very least, you have a starting point to go from for when you have to write similar essays for scholarships senior year (believe me, having some idea down beforehand will help b/c it will save you time).

Also, it's good to realize early on that you need to work hard in school and get involved with extracurriculars or in community activities. Keep a record of everything you do (activity & year you were in it). For community service, it's good to keep a record of community service projects & the time you spent doing them. In addition, start keeping a record of awards you've received in high school. These records (even just type out a list on a computer document) will definitely help you with some scholarship applications.

Hope this helps starkid
