depends on your situation. IF you want to major in a specific course of study and the only colleges (the best) that have that curriculum are in Alaska and Texas, then you may need to think about going far away. If you are going into business management then most colleges all over the USA have that as part of their offerings. YOU decide based upon your desired major field of study, costs associated (travel, room and board, meals), and the degree to which you want to be near your family. From experience, it is difficult to do college level work "at home". Being away offers you the opportunity to meet others of different back rounds and helps your ability to adjust to life "on your own". Your parents are not the ones who will be going to college. Their opinions are important, but THEY shouldn't make your decision for you.

I think that it depends on the person. If you are fine with being far away from your parents and the college you go to has the major with everything you want ther then do it. However, if you would like to stay close to home and a college you find has everything you want go for it. Really it matters on the college and your own level of independency. Yet, you could choose a college that is close to home yet still not. I mean that you could be a state over so your parents are close but not close enough to visit and as long as the college has what you want you're set.
