I love writing so much, i've had a knack for it for as long as I can remember, I've always been the best writer in my class, I always had the most interesting writings. My teacher told me that it's a special gift that I have. I keep journals, Im writing in my 6th one now. If you give me a pen, paper, and a topic, I'll write up a storm. It's what I want to do. My mom says it's something I can do on the side, she says I need a career. I just want to write!! Does anybody know what I should do? What should I get a mojor in? And I also love decorating things. I cut pictures out of the magazine, and I glue pictures to a big poster board. I made like 5 of them. I'm going to make one of spongebob too, LOL. I'm a very creative person, Im always coming up with ideas to decorate things. If anybody could help me out, I'd appreciate it! [:D]

Writing is a career! It's what I do, and I absolutely love it! My best advice to you is to keep writing. Write everyday and keep a notebook with you at all times. You can be inspired any time of the day, and it's important to write it down immediately. In the car, in class, at the mall, wherever you are. When you go to college, major in English or journalism. These are both writing-based programs that will help your writing grow and take you places you didn't know you had inside of you. Believe me, the world needs good writers! There are so few! Even if you don't write poetry or novels as your career, do it on the side while you produce other types of writing for your job. There is a need for writers in EVERY field. Freelancing may not be lucrative, but it allows you to do what you love AND get paid. The only way to become a better writer is to keep writing. Make sure it stays your passion, no matter what you do!

Im pretty much in the same boat as you. I absolutely love writing but when I think about it all I can wonder is how I can ever make a realistic career out of it. Its the only thing ive ever been certain about in my life, yet I dont know what career can be made of it. If you find the answer Id be happy to know.

we must be twins or something. I'm exactly like you. I love to write and my mom said the samething...she said that writing isn't a stable career. So I chose to be a Teacher (for English) and Writing is on the side.

I know how that is... I told my mom I wanted to be a 'professional writer person,' and she laughed before telling me how rare it is that a person can write for a living. So I did the closest thing I could, which was to pick a career near writing for a living.

Write all you can, but pick something to do in your 'spare' time.[;)]

I absolutely love writing. I found Journalism is an awesome career to pursue as a writer. If your still in HS join the newspaper staff. HS newspapers are in desperate need for talented writers. Just because you might not like non-fiction writing, doesn't mean you won't be a good journalist. Newspapers need all kinds of writing to be well-rounded. If you are truly passionate about writing than journalism is perfect for you, b/c journalist jobs are their lives.
B/c I love to read and write, I've always wanted to be an English teacher. So many kids today hate reading b/c they have never read anything they really like. Instead of grabbing a kids interest for reading by having them start with a book they would like or relate to, most teachers have kids start out with the classics (i.e. shakespeare, dickens, bronte, etc...). While those books are so important for kids to read, if they aren't interested in reading to begin with, they will hate them. That's why I want to be a teacher who develops a curriculum that starts with modern fiction like the works of Chris Crutcher, Lois Lowry, Todd Strasser, Scott Westerfeld, etc. Books that will grab kids attention and develop a true love for reading and writing. I love to write too. All I ever do is read and write. My friends like to joke that everytime they see me I'm reading. I can't help it. I'm only a sophmore in high school, but most people like to go out and party while I'd rather read a book or write a story. I do scenario writing and I write stories all the time. I couldn't think of a good career though. I don't want to be a journalist and I'm not very good in English. I just like to write. I think I'm going to try and teach History and write on the side or work in the publishing field...I just don't know yet.

See, for me, I loved to write since I was eight or nine. One of my many dreams was to become an author of a major crime novel series. I started young; when I was twelve I started my first book. It took me a year to complete, and when I had people read it, they said it was marvelous. One person couldn't put it down. Totally excited, I looked for publishing companies to send it to. Unfortunately, i never got to that step. My confidence fell after reading the book through, trying to edit. The book was horrible! I tried to cram three books' worth of material into two hundred pages. My characters were not developed at all. The formatting was all wrong. And, the book consumed me! Seriously, everwhere I went and everything I saw, I tried to figure out how to fit it into my book.

Thinking I would never, ever make this mistake again, I tried to write another novel. It was shorter, less graphic, but still pure crime. I loved the storyline. However, that failed too. I guess being an author wasn't for me, but the stuff I wrote about inspired me to become a police officer. Now, my dream is to become a homicide detective. I'm preparing myself, too. I'm not rushing into it. I'm attending various programs the local police force puts on, and in one I get a real cop uniform and get to go to the pistol range! I get to ride along with an officer in his car for up to twelve hours--all day or all night. I get to arrest all sorts of drunkards, theives, etc. With each preparation course I attend, my confidence and enthusiasm for the police force inflates.

My advice is: start small, work your way up, and if writing is your passion, GO FOR IT! What good is a passion without being willing to act?

Okay, I guess I'm not adding much to this discussion by writing this next sentence, but here I go anyway. I love to write, too. I have come up with several first chapters for books, and even finished eight chapters in my latest attempt. However, after reading Ant Farm by Simon Rich, my view on writing changed completely. I'm not much of a reader, which most people find weird (apparently there is an unwritten law that all writers must have nerdy glasses and keep their noses constantly buried in books.) So when I do read, the book has more of an effect on me.

Anyway, the point is that Ant Farm is a collection of humorous vignettes, and it inspired me to write funny short stories of my own. I just finished about 17 of those stories, and when my friends read them, they actually laughed...a lot! Some of the lines even became inside jokes with my pals. I was so excited when they began to urge me to publish it.

So I don't know if I can really help you, but if anyone has publishing advice for me, please help!

This title fits me perfectly!

Writing is not only my passion, but it is also my passtime, my obsession, && my life! When I was in fifth grade, I wrote a horror story for Halloween which my teacher appraised me on. Since then, I have taken an extreme fascination in writing && journalism. In seventh && eighth grade, my English teacher had rediscovered my said-talent && started a Writing Club, in which other students && myself submitted stories, songs, poetry, && prose that we had written for positive feedback from our teacher && each other. My teacher told me that my writing was really good && spent the rest of my eighth grade year trying to sign me up to a publisher. I graduated before she could, && now, in my sophomore year of high school I am still trying to find contests to submit in my stories, && am still trying to find a publisher for the novel(s) I am working on. I have written four articles in total for my preceding school's newspaper && intend on doing so for the school I am in now. I also won a $100 cash prize poetry contest last year. I intend on becoming a journalist/novelist when I graduate from college, but I have one problem: In freshman year, I went to "high school A", && I was in an English Honors class; I graduated from that level of school with a 4.0 GPA. Then, I moved; I am now in a new school, && I have no honors classes, when I was recommended for three. I am trying to get back into English Honors, but so far, my attempts have been unsuccessful. The school also has very minimal && unrewarding clubs. My goal is to graduate high school with a 4.0 GPA && get into an Ivy League school... how can I accomplish all of these goals with all regular classes, minimal clubs, && no scolarship money? Help is needed!! [&o]

hii =],

writing is a career as the first reply says. i think you should go for writing if it really is your passion, and i think you might even want to check out some designing majors, like interior, graphic, so on. Since you're creative i think designing is a good option for you as well as writing. maybe you can do both [;)]. lol. laters, [:

With no disrespect to people's parents. ITS YOUR LIFE. Its YOUR CARERR. and if you want your career to be writing that the more power to you. Do what makes you happy, not whats going to make other people happy. When you come home at the end of the day, your the one who is going to miserable, so don't let people pressure you. To anyone who has dreams of becoming a writer, Good LUck!!!1

First of all, WRITING IS A CAREER. You can be an author, novelist, journalist, poetry, and others. In some colleges you have to major in English or known as English Literature to get your degree in writing. Some colleges like Ithica College has Writing as a major. So, explain to your parent that this is the major that you are really passionate about and you should really go for it.

[8|] I have never really appreciated writing until I got to really know myself. I happy you have learned to discover that passion early in life. What would you recommend for a late bloomer such as myself.
