Transcripts, score reports, essays, and applications. It seems like applying to college is more of a chore than anything else.
Being a senior, during the months of August through January, my life revolves around college applications. Besides filling out applications and writing essays, I have to remember to do all the pesky things like getting teacher recommendations, paying for SAT scores to be sent, and sending off transcripts.
Why is the college application process so time-consuming?!
As it is already difficult to write an essay for English class, balancing that with writing a college essay is even more difficult.
It is paralyzing to realize how many essays you need to write for just a few schools; each essay having its own topic, requirement, and weight in your total application. Why I have to explain my reasons for going to college, in only 250 words, is beyond me.
Moreover, I feel like I am being ripped off every time I work on an application. I should not have to pay seventy dollars just to mail in a piece of paper, or even to get the scores to the SAT tests that I took and paid for.
All of this without even the guarantee of an acceptance.
However, being that the College Board is the only company that administers the SAT, annoyed students like me have no other choice, but to comply with their regulations.
Out of the whole application process, I can say that the only good thing is the feeling you get after finishing an application. There is that sense of accomplishment as you put your materials in the mailbox and realize that that might be the college you will attend the following year.
