The Arrowhead girls tennis team traveled to Muskego on Tuesday, September 11th for a meet against the newest member of the Classic Eight. Senior captain Abby Kolbow and her partner, freshmen Kali Flesch, were the top doubles team for the Warhawks.
Sophomore Emily Kolbow, Abby’s sister, is the top singles player for the Warhawks. Coming into the match, Abby and Kali posted a 15-5 record, while Emily recorded 17 wins and 3 losses.
“ I haven’t been playing up to my potential in previous matches,” said Abby Kolbow. “Last week we had some tough matches against DSHA (Divine Savior Holy Angels) and Waukesha West. We just want to get back to how we were playing earlier in the season.”
Abby and Kali were at the top of their game against Muskego, winning both sets 6-0 6-0. They never trailed at any point of any game.
“It felt good winning the match,” said Abby. We both were hitting great shots, and we limited our unforced errors. We need to carry this momentum the rest of the season and into state.”
When asked about what her expectations are for state Abby said, “Last year my partner and I finished 7th at state. This year we hope to place, which is being in the top six.
“It’s going to be tough. Homestead is definitely the team to beat since they won state last year,” said Abby ,“But me and Kali are going to go out there and give it our all.”
Emily Kolbow, who is coming off a great week after beating University School’s Maddy Ecker in two sets. Ecker took fourth last year at state.
Emily had a tough match at Muskego however. After dropping the first set 4-6, she responded strong winning the next two sets 6-1 6-0. As just a freshman, Emily lost in the third round of state last year to the runner up of the tournament. Emily has high expectations for herself this year.
Arrowhead’s next match will be Friday, September 21st at the Arrowhead tennis courts. Their opponent will be the Lancers of Brookfield Central. The match will be at 4p.m. so for all you football fans out there, you will still have time to make it to the football game.
