One thing that a lot of teens care about is birth control. With the recent rise in teen pregnancy it is opening a lot of teenager’s eyes to the reality of safe sex and the importance to contraception’s. Many schools around the nation are starting to really stress the importance of birth control and it’s starting to take notice in Washington. President Barack Obama and the other running candidate Mitt Romney have their own views on the topic and they’re not shy to air their views publicly.
President Obama supports Birth control and believes that all contraceptives should be available for free by health care plans which would include the morning after pill. This poll does not terminate pregnancy but, some religious groups consider it the abortion pill. Obama supports abortion, he believes that girls 16 and under should be allowed to be prescribed this pill. This pill wouldn’t be as big of a problem if every teen had easy access to birth control.
Candidate Mitt Romney does not have a public view on birth control, but opposes abortion. If elected he plans to cut federal aid to planned parenthood. If federal aid was cut from Planned Parenthood, then this would cause the stop a lot of distribution of contraceptives and there would be more unplanned pregnancies from the lack of education to teens and young adults of America.
I believe that birth control should be available to all teens. Birth control is a very controversial issue especially when schools get involved. A lot of schools feel that giving out forms of birth control such as condoms are necessary to keep teens safe, but many parents disagree. 13 different schools in New York City are also giving out the plan B morning after pill without parents consent. This leaves many parents outraged but many teens safe. Birth control should be available to all teens because keeping it from them only results in unsafe sex. Better safe than sorry.
Any teen girl can get a prescription for birth control from their doctor. Talking to a doctor is one of the best ways to go because you can find out what’s best for you and your body. There is also over the counter contraceptives that can be bought at a local drug store.
Overall I feel that the next president of the United States should be thinking about the teens of America. He should think about their safety and security. He should do what he feels protects the teens which, in my opinion, would be giving them a good education on, and providing, birth control for them. All teenagers across the country should be aware of their next president’s stance on birth control.
