Look at us. We are beams of light barely soaking through the multi-layered atmosphere. Our hearts are simply humming. We, the future of this world, are barely awakening and stretching forth our youthful promises, groping the air in front of us with our brief 18 or so years of experience. Oh,how people will stare. Possibilities weave their way into our hopes and ambitions, causing our countenances to energize the world we are just getting to know. We do not wait. We leap.
In front of each of us potentially masterful students lies a slew of options. These options lie in a starry pool, vastly stretched in front of us. Many of us spend time wading through the waters, the future still crisp and cool on our fingertips. For some the water is murky, unreachable, or small. There may be even those of us who frightened by the limitless perimeters of the nightly pool, afraid that we do not know what lies in the dark and watery world. One thing is for certain, though: that pool is meant for us, and we must all, and some point or another, dive in.
As we armor ourselves for the expectations of life, we find a lot of options. It is this time were young people, like me and you, have a decision to make that will ultimately lead us to exactly the kind of inspired humans we set out to be. There will be open-minded and stimulated philosophers, innovative and ingenious inventors, and imaginative and breath-taking artists. You could become a healer, a writer, a musician, simply whatever stirs the human heart you've accustomed to fulfilling your dreams.
But there is another option...
Stay and stare at the wayside. Too many of us fresh and ready learners get caught up in a stream of self-doubt and uncertainty. We underestimate our tremendous worth, and ultimately lose sight of our goal. In a world where tragedy and sorrow breeds a fire that consumes so many, may we be the ones who fiercely put out the flames and proclaim "Not me. I'm meant for more."
We are boundless. And right now looks like a great time for a swim.
