Change is like a tornado; it comes without a warning and can turn your world upside down or let it down safely. Either way, nothing will ever be the same. Sometimes it takes strength and courage to change. Everyone has to decide to adjust one way or another, and for me it was moving and adapting to a new town, starting a new sport, and concentrating on what really matters; my grades!
One of my biggest changes that I have made in my life was moving from the countryside of Texas into the city part of Georgia! I was so terrified but enthusiastic at the same time. My biggest fear was not knowing anyone around and area, and knowing absolutely no one! I had to adapt to a whole new lifestyle that I never in my life thought I would have to do. Where I lived in Texas, there's was not a lot of interstates like there is in Georgia. That was one thing that both my parents and I were kind of worried about. In the book,
Who Moved My Cheese?
There was handwriting that was written on the wall that said, "The quicker you let go of old cheese, the sooner you'll find new cheese" I understand this because it's saying that once you let go of an old environment then you will soon find a better place. Over time I started to see I was changing, and it was not as overwhelming and I felt relieved. I thought, "This couldn't be that bad, could it?"
Like many other people, change can be as simple as starting something new. In the same book,
Who Moved My Cheese?
Haw wrote: Movement in a new direction helps you find new cheese, he was just letting fate to the job and waiting for what lay ahead of him, and even though he didn't know for sure what was going to happen he had faith but for me and in my situation it meant that starting softball could lead me to many things that benefit from it. In 7th grade I decided that I wanted to start a new sport and I chose softball. It was my decision and I thought that I could learn a lot of new things this way, such as staying fit and eating a well balanced diet. This was a huge change just because I can't eat junk food and have to practice non-stop at home and on the field when possible. It gets tiring, and of course like many people, when I first started I thought I wasn't able to do this right and I would always think, "I CAN'T DO IT!" I never give up though and I keep trying. It was actually proven that kids who are in activities like this are smarter than the average kid in the same age division. I had to turn down multiple invitations to parties and hanging out with friends because I either had a game or practice to attend. I honestly would rather go out and work hard at something and get things out of it, rather then staying at home with friends gettingn nothing. I play this not for competing but meeting new people and sharing memories that can last a life time.
For the type of person I am, I really care about how well I do in school and how decent my grades are. I love how in 8th grade the teachers are so thoughtful and like to help with anything possible to get ready for the future. They give me boat loads of work, and more assignments to complete, but they're just throwing things out there for me so I'll know that everything is not as easy as I may think. This has changed me completely because before 8th grade i was making fair enough grades but not as excellent as I'm doing now. Just like in the same book, the character, Haw, had to change because he never liked doing anything, and didn't like to push himself to trying new things. I remember one day I was unsure I would be able to do something because I thought I was to hard and my science teacher told me, "You are very assiduous in what you do. You should push yourself to do things that you wouldn't even imagining yourself doing. I could really see you getting far in life. Please don't give up." This really inspired me to set goals in life. So I did, and it's gotten me farther than I ever thought possible for myself.
I changed all of these things with a little perseverance and faith to do it. Change is not always a bad thing. Just like a tornado, you can go up with no change and possible regrets, or stay down and change with the powerful yet mysterious outcomes. Whether it's moving to a new state, achieving grade goals that you wouldn't even imagine, it even starting something new, like a sport or activity, think and say, " I can, I will, and it can take me places." Have you ever changed by decision or force and ended up liking it? You never know the solution until you let go of the past, and look into the future and say," Anything is possible if I just believe, I can do this!"
