The definition of pressure that we learn in high school is a force pushing on an object or surface. The pressure that teenagers face is completely different. We face the pressure from our peers, teachers, and parents. The pressure from our peers to fit in and follow the crowd. The pressure from our parents and teachers to obtain an outstanding GPA and academic record.
The pressure that is put onto young people makes them go to extremes. The one time a student forgets to study and feels under pressure to have the perfect academic record and cheats from the pressure. For an athlete the pressure is to be the best and begins to take steroids.
Competitive attitudes are wonderful but when it's pushed above an extent it can stress out a teenager. The thought that their flaw is unacceptable can constantly occupy a teenager's mind and influence their decisions because of the pressure from other people in their life.
In today's world, the pressure on a teenager is greater than it was when our parents were teenagers. Now teenagers need name-brand clothes and shoes to fit in or be thought of as "cool". Just because someone is different and not following the trends that other teenagers are following makes a person an outcast. Individuality is supposed to be encouraged and acceptable, not put down because it's not what everyone else is doing.
So someone is different and likes to express themselves in a different way. It takes courage to express one’s self and be different, so instead of degrading someone we should appreciate them. We as teenagers shouldn't base someone off of what they have or what type of clothes they wear. So what if it's not name-brand clothes, they are clothes aren't they?
For students or athletes, you're best is you're best and if you are satisfied with what you have accomplished then nothing else matters. Don't let the pressure of other people put you down or stress you out. It's your life and someone else should not influence your decisions. You have your own mind and your own goals that you have for yourself. Reach for your dreams and accomplish your goals because they are your goals and the pressure from everyone else should not matter. Don't let others manage your life and don't let others pressure you because it's your life, not theirs.

I great article. You couldn't have said it better. Teen pressures are so much more common nowadays that it's a wonder how teen even manages to go about their day. What strikes me most on the article is this:
Quote:
The thought that their flaw is unacceptable can constantly occupy a teenager's mind and influence their decisions because of the pressure from other people in their life.
I totally agree with you on this one. Going to school and passing grades is a pressure in itself but added it with pressures from peers and family, it's just way to much to put on the shoulder of teens. Thus, they try to cope badly by making bad choices by doing drugs, staying out and party, and drinking alcohol. These are just examples that which teens do to somehow relieve pressures. Hopefully, this can be addressed at schools and community in order to help teens cope and manage the stresses and pressures in their lives and friends and family can understand and just back off and let their teens do their thing.
