I recently submitted two pieces to the Next Step Teen Writing Contest, though it wasn't until after I realized I may have submitted to the wrong site. I have a couple of questions to ask to make sure that my writing fits the Next Step requirments.

1. I noticed the two stories I submitted are longer than most of the other submissions on the forum. Is there a word limit? If so, what is the word limit?

2. Is the contest still running? I haven't seen any sort of recognition to previous winners.

3. It is likely I will not win this time through as I have seen some very well written pieces, but are submissions considered in future contests? For instance, if there are a rarity of submissions in the next contest, will the piece I have already submitted still be part of the selection process?

4. Are simultaneous submissions allowed? I've been submitting to every teen writing contest or magazine I can find, and many forbid the sending of manuscripts already sent to their site to other sites.

5. What do the stories have to be about? I understand they are supposed to be written in the first person, but is there any particular subject or genre that is required?

Sorry it's taken me some time to respond to you. Here are the answers to your questions:

1. There is no word limit, but winning entries tend to be 2000 words or less.

2. Yes, the contest is still running. In the past, we have only highlighted winners in our printed magazine, but this year, we intend to post them online as well.

3. Yes, all entries are considered each time.

4. Yes, you can submit stories that you've submitted elsewhere. Winners, though, may not have the article published anywhere else.

5. Your story can be about anything related to college, careers, or life in and after high school.
