Be sure to communicate with the advisors at your college. They can inform you about work-study, scholarships, etc. That's what they're there for! Also, check the Financial Aid department. If you can work during summers, do it! It really helps out.

The FAFSA didn't do much for me last year, but my dad's been out of work since December, so I think I might have a chance this time!

i was in school out of the country last year so fafsa doesnt apply to it, but i was getting college credits through a school in the states. they charge more than nessery in the hopes that the next year i would go and get a discount. anyway it was worth it for me to go through this college cuz not only did fafsa pay for it (which i wouldnt have got without this american school) but by second semester i had made money off of going through this school

I neglected to say that if you're still in high school, you have advisors there who would love to help you with scholarships. You don't have to (and shouldn't!) wait to get a college advisor!

I was homeschooled, so I was kind of my own advisor. Now I'm headed into college!

GraceGirl - I am curious how you learned about Next Step since you were home-schooled. Were the magazine and web site good resources for you?

AdSeller--I can't remember exactly how I found Next Step, but I think it was a link from some other website. I research a lot of college stuff on the web, so that's probably what happened. I don't really subscribe to the magazine, but I enjoy the website.

Myaa_513--I guess it would depend on what college you want to go to. You figure which one fits you and contact the college for an application. College is an exciting new step. I hope you enjoy it!
