Everyone always says that they want to change someones life, I have chosen a career path that will hopefully do exactly that. Many things have impacted my choices in my career path. I grew up in a big town, but when I turned 15 my family moved to a small town. I didn’t expect to move from a town of 30,000 people to a town of 800 people. I was very outgoing, since I had been in Beauty Pageants my entire life. I learned how to make new friends since I had the same group of friends my whole life. The frist day of school everyone wanted to know everything about me, then the next couple of weeks I was just left alone. I met some girls, and we became best friends. The years flew by and before I knew it we were graduating from 8th grade.
Then High school started, I joined the play. Since I love to be in front of people I knew it was a great oportunity for me, and the charatcer I had fitted me perfectly. I also joined FFA because I wanted to help the farming community around me, and find out more about it since I came from a big town with no corn feilds for miles around. Sophmore year came around and I was so excited to get my license, I went to the DMV with my mother and took my driving test. I knew the lady who gave me the test from past work with my parents. The lady called me an exallent driver. That night I decided I wanted to take my moms car to play practice and show off my "new cool adulthood." Play practice got out early and a group of my friends and I decided to go for a drive. We went down a gravel road going a little too fast and ended up flipping the car and getting into a major accident. Luckily no one was hurt badly. The worse injury was my ear that needed 12 stictes. The group drifted aprat after that. I blamed myself for being stupid and putting my friends lives in danger. That is when I wanted to leave the small town, and just have everyone forget about me and what I had done.
Junior year began and we had to start thinking about where our life was headed. I really didnt know what I wanted to do for my career. I just wanted to leave and never return. Then one day I got a phone call from a friend of the family that was a firefighter with my parents when they still lived in Downers Grove. She was talking about how she loved being a firefighter, and it got me thinking that maybe that is how I can change the life of at least one person. I then put in an application to join the fire department. I became the first female in my town to be on the department. And it has opened doors for other females in my town. The whole time I was thinking if I only help one person not make the same mistake I did my sophmore year. I was on my first fire call, and it was someone I knew, the whole town knew her. She didnt make it, and that is when I decided i had to get serious about my career and choose what I wanted to do.
I decided I want to be a Radio DJ, and a volenteer firefighter/ EMT. Over the years my family has been in the firefighter and EMT field. They have told me all the good and bad storys about what they have seen. It made me want to help more. I want to be a radio Dj to help younger generations out there that are from small towns realize that they can fulfill their dreams no matter where they are from.
My Older brother has also influenced my future. He was in Iraq for a year as a Combat Medic in Baghdad and was stationed with the Marines. He has showed me why we are really free, and how I need to pursue my career to show my love for my country. He told me I dont have to join the service in order to be "a true American." He has also told me that I can change peoples lives through my work, like he did. I want to show my thanks to him by pursuing my career, and showing him I can be my own person, and follow my dreams.
I want to go to School to better my future, and to see the world. I know I will love the radio indusrty and love what I will do. I have to show my family that I can do things on my own. I want to move into the "real world" and explore things by myself and learn from my mistakes.
