It was a hot summer day in Miami when my dad pulled up in our driveway in a green Mustang. This Mustang wasn’t like any other car; it was the newest version of a Mustang. I was stunned by my dad appearing in the car of my dreams, but what I didn’t know was that my surprise was even better. My dad broke the news to me that we were spending the weekend in the Keys. I jumped for joy and scurried inside to gather some clothes. As we drove down the Florida turnpike toward the Keys, I soaked in the sun as the wind ran crazy through my hair. A weekend full of excitement and adventures was ahead of me.
When we arrived in the Keys, the weather was beautiful and so was the water. We started our fun by renting jet skis and going tubing. When my turn came to drive the Jet Ski, sweat rushed down my arms to the palms of my hands. I had seen numerous people flip into the ocean trying to maneuver the Jet Ski. The thought of falling off and floating hopelessly in the ocean with the sharks frightened me. I got on and learned I had to face my fears. After, many falls, I got the flow of things and the fun began. I also mastered tubing, a very intense and tiring but enjoying activity. Two people drive the speeding Jet ski while behind the Jet ski people, grasp a life ring with their hands as their body withstands the waves and the water crashes against their face and hair.
Later, I also experienced what fishing is all about. On top of it being my first time fishing, we went fishing at the night. It was black and it was frightening. I was terrified of not being able to see what was in front of me. After half an hour, I gave up and concluded that fishing wasn’t for me.
I delighted in the beautiful scenery when we had an elegant dinner outside, overlooking the water with a great view of the horizon. During this trip I fell in love with the world of seafood. My favorite dishes were sushi and calamari.
This surprise trip to the Keys brought many memories: my first time driving a Jet ski, going tubing, and discovering my love for seafood. More than that, the trip helped me realize what family is all about. Sharing quality time with The people who were around me when it was my first time attempting things in life, the people who taught me how to walk and talk this weekend helped me understand that family is all you need. It is not boring to hangout with them instead of going to parties with friends and trying to be cool. If it weren’t for my mom and dad, I wouldn’t be the person I am today.
