Bullying:
Often in life, heartbreaking and extremely hurtful events may occur. Unfortunately I have been directly affected by these situations. Bullying, no matter what form, hurts like hell. It can tear a person apart from the inside out.
In my school, bullying is a true problem and it’s everywhere. I have been bullied since I was in 1st grade. I remember once I was in the lunch line at school and a high school student was behind me. I was standing there waiting and he said “Move fat a**”. I don’t remember what I did after that but I remember how I felt. I felt small and unimportant. Up until about 5th grade that’s all the bullies would say. Then toward the end of 5th grade, it got worse. It escalated to people calling me stupid, ugly, an ugly f***, short, and of course fat. I have had to deal with bullying ever since 1st grade.
Another way I have been bullied is through Facebook. I am one of the 25% of adolescents and teens that have been bullied repeatedly through cell phones and the internet. People that I thought were my friends became the people I never wanted to be around. I don’t think they realized that they scarred me for life. Now that may sound extreme but it’s true. If you have been bullied, you know what I’m talking about.
Cyber bullying victims are more likely to commit suicide. I have to admit that I have thought about suicide before. Sometimes you just can’t help but to feel like you shouldn’t live. You reach the breaking point. But luckily I have someone to help through the dark days. This is my best friend. You don’t need to have hundreds of friends that don’t care. All you need is one that is with you for life. Whether you’re dealing with what to wear when you wake up, or bullying, it’s nothing if you do not have a friend with you every step of the way.
Bullying happens more often than you may think. A little over a year ago, on November 16, 2011, a 10-year-old girl committed suicide. Can you guess why? Bullying. She was bullied in school about her clothes and her shoes. Two laws were made on her behalf. This story is just one of the thousands that prove bullying is everywhere and there’s no escaping it.
You cannot run from bullying, however you can overcome it. This means that instead of hiding, you should try to stop it. You need to be stronger than the bullies. This doesn’t mean become a bully or retaliate in an inappropriate way, but, you should simply ignore bullies. I am sure that this will decrease the amount of bullying that you encounter. It won’t stop it completely, nothing will, but it is certainly better than what it could be. Take it from me. It does get better, I promise. I know it feels impossible now, but you need to stay strong. Like they always say “Keep Calm and Carry On”. It’s true.
If you are looking for an alternative to ignore bullying, turn to the one thing that will be there every minute of every day. Music. All kinds of music can express how you feel at certain times. So if you feel like physically harming yourself, just listen to the genre of music or song that expresses that empty or painful feeling. This is turning a negative situation positive. This is what you want. The more positive thinkers the world has, the more right-minded people will be able to guide those who have been negatively reflective. Music is the doorway to a better life.
Do you want to stop the one thing that is traumatizing half of the nation? All you need to do is inspire people, help people, and make them feel wanted. Be pleasant, winsome, and welcoming to others even if you don’t think you can be best friends, just let them know you’ll be there for them. And you have to do this without expecting something in return. You have to do it out of the kindness of your heart. There is an end to bullying. And you can help stop it one step at a time.
Even today I haven’t discovered how to escape bullying. I am still being bullied. But thanks to music and my best friend, its okay and life is good.
