HS Senior Moves from Arizona to Wisconsin

Moving during high school is hard. But moving across the country for your senior year of high school is impossible for most to even imagine.
Kelsey Jones moved from Phoenix, Arizona in August 2012 due to her father’s job. She now attends Arrowhead High School in Hartland, Wisconsin.
Jones says, “Arrowhead is so much different than my old school in Arizona. The biggest difference is definitely the upperclassmen and underclassmen being separated between two campuses.”
“The people here are also so much nicer and way more accepting than the people at my old school,” says Jones.
One thing Jones dislikes about Wisconsin is the weather. She says, “It is so cold here already, and it is just fall! This is how cold our winters are in Arizona!”
“I am not looking forward to my first winter with snow,” says Jones.
Tyler, Kelsey’s younger brother who is a freshman at Arrowhead says, “If we would have stayed in Arizona, I still would have had to attend a new school for my first year of high school anyway so either way I was expecting a big change.”
Jones thinks she is adjusting very well. She has made friends and enjoys her classes. She says she still misses her old life in Arizona.
“I think moving here was both a positive and negative experience for me. Positive because I had the opportunity to branch out and meet new people. Negative because senior year is supposed to be the year to just relax and have a good last year of high school with all of my friends but instead I am trying to adjust to a completely different life.”
“But if I had the chance to move back, I probably would. I love the people I am meeting here but I just feel so out of place. I want my old life back,” says Jones.
Jones plans to go back to Arizona and attend college there next year. She is applying to University of Arizona and Arizona State University.
