“ Do you want to know what makes me a superhero ? ”, I questioned Ivan.

Ivan and I were in my high school’s library and I was itching to asked that question. Ivan was a Cal SOAPs member that pulled me out of my 3rd period class. Ivan wanted to talk about my future plans for college but I could see in her eyes curiosity cause by my question.

“ Is it because you have risked your life to save someone ? “, Ivan answered.

“ You are almost right. Superheroes do save people, but that does not make me a superhero. “

I could see Ivan’s face glowed with anticipation. She was happy to put our college talk aside so we could talk about superheroes. She waited patiently for my response, so I answered the question.

“ People who have heard of Batman consider him a superhero even though he does not have any superpowers. So why is Batman considered a hero ? It is because Batman is a symbol for humans to go to a level of super, even though he is an ordinary human just like me.”

“ So how does that make you a superhero Ellis ? “, Ivan asked.

“ The reason why I am a superhero is because I speak my mind. “

“ How does speaking your mind make you a superhero Ellis ? “

“ It’s because say what I believe in and I go against all odds. “

We all want to be a superhero. Superheroes are praised with the utter most respect and crowds of people line up for them; we see them as shining hope of a better future. However, we don’t need superpowers to be a superhero. That means anyone could be a superhero right ? This raises the question. What is the special quality that makes superheroes ? The answer is to go against all the odds. Batman has no superpower, but he fight against a massive fleet of killer aliens trying to take over Gotham City. It is a million to one chance of victory and the odds are against Batman. But that does not discourage Batman. Batman finds a way to kick the aliens’ butts and saves Gotham City. We all want to be a superhero, because we want that special quality.

I like superheroes and I think that Batman is freaking awesome. That is why I plan to be like Batman, a superhero who defies all odds. I would wear my cape and my underwear, applying for universities of California at their website. Even despite my low grades and scores and my weird personality, I go against any odds of being rejected. Wait ! How exactly do I go against the odds of being rejected when its the college’s choice ? Easy answer, I just be my superhero self. Just like how Batman battles alien fleets, I would battle through the endless question on the UC application. As the clock is ticking down and slowly coming to November 30. I sit the computer and stare at the submit button, thinking to myself, “ What would Batman do ? “ I take a deep breathe and clicked the submit button.
