To me, a father is a person you can joke with when you are young, someone who will push you to do your best as you grow up, and someone who will be there for you even when you are older. My father is a person that I can look up to and is someone I can rely on. I believe in the importance of fathers and the strong impact they have on their daughters’ lives. My father has helped to shape and mold me into the strong, independent person that I am today.
As a tike, my most cherished memories revolved around my father. At five o’clock every day I would come running from wherever I was just to snag a single hug from my father. I remember him catching me and flying me around like I was an airplane. Every Friday morning he would put my hair in a pony tail because it “looked prettiest” that way. I’d fight with him every time, but he still insisted. He would make me clean my room every Friday afternoon, but no matter how much I protested and fought he would still help me get it done.
Even though I am seventeen now, my father still finds ways to be there for me. Before I leave the house to go anywhere he is always at the door to scream, “Be careful, drive slow” or “boys are evil, boys are bad, and boys are no good.” And whenever I come home from being out late, he always leaves the light on for me. He expects me to get good grades and go to a good college in hopes that I will be well off in life. This leads me to set high goals for myself to try to make him proud. Such as graduating from college and creating a stable career for myself. I hope that I can make him proud.
As I continue to grow, I look forward to the things to come that will involve my father. First I look forward to graduation and him dropping me off on my first day of college. I look forward to seeing the mixed emotions of happy and sad on his face; sad for seeing me off to college, but happy he brought me up well. I will look forward to going home to visit him and the rest of my family on holidays and breaks. And I cannot wait for him to walk me down the aisle on my wedding day. I cannot wait to see the sadness in his eyes because he’s letting me go, but yet happy that I am happy.
I believe that every daughter deserves to have a father like mine, someone who could be there for them when they are feeling down and lift them higher than the airplanes in the sky.
