I dive into the sultry sea, its icy waves engulfing me. The cold waters push against my skin, the feeling the same as running through a wall of silk. I let my body suspend in the water, allowing the waves to take me where they please, my limbs completely free, unable to attach to one place. My curls have gone strait with the density of the water, swaying back and forth, tickling the sea beneath me. My hands push against the liquid, sending trickles of blue between each finger. Each on coming wave acts as a catalyst to the energy built up inside of me. When one finally comes, lightning bolts dance across my spine and up my arms and legs. Here comes a big one… breathe in, go under, stop. The force challenges me, sending my body all across the bottom of the sea, but I don’t give up. I grab onto a piece of coral as the rush flies over me, taking my legs along for the ride. But still I grab hold, not letting her win, not letting her expel me from the wonders that she holds. My legs fall, I come up, breathe, look around, go back down, start again. This time I don’t grab hold I let her take me. Legs overhead, again and again. Smack. I’ve reached the sand. I stand up, weary eyes, dry throat. No ones around, I go back in. The water hugs me as I dive back into her body, as if apologizing for treating me so roughly. We stay together for a while, just rocking back and forth, enjoying each others embrace. But then I did it, I knew I shouldn’t have, and she got angry, sending more watery daggers my way. Thrashing back and forth, back and forth, I tell her to stop, but she doesn’t. So I get out. I stand far away, angry at her misbehavior. Of course she comes back to me, slowly but surely she comes back. Washing up on shore, closer and closer to my feet, until she is just touching my toes…I give in, how can I not. Run. Dive. Breathe. Look. Down. Hold. Thrash. Breathe. Look. The waters calm again, inviting me to stay. I lie on my back, face up at the stars. Back and forth, up and down, I sway, mesmerized by sugar sprinkled sky. Someone’s coming, I hear a noise, see a light in the distance. My body hides beneath the water, only my eyes exposed, locked on the figure approaching. Their light shuts off; I can no longer see them in the slight haze of the moon. But then I hear a splash, the water trickles around me in rings, each tightening on me, bounding me in place. That’s when I see him, pale in the white glow of the moon. Clouds of shadows cast across his face, he looks like the sky, I think. “I knew I’d find you here,” he says, as he nears me. Five feet away and I can already feel the heat emitting from his body. She pulls me closer to him through her waves as if she knows. The movement stops as I am presented in front of him, but I can feel her energy all around us…or is that ours? “Swim with me,” he says with a smirk, his face inches from my own. He pulls me under the water and I began to swim, feeling the strain in my muscles as they moved against the rush. He lets go of my hand as I begin to paddle my arms through the sea. With a newfound wind, I kick my legs hard, not meaning to hurt her; I just want to swim like he asked. I wouldn’t do this for anyone besides him. He’s cast a spell over me, worse than the ocean has and I can’t break free, no matter how hard I try. I stop, look at him; his eyes sparkle more than the stars’ reflection on the sea. He grabs my waist and pulls me back under; I melt into the water and into the thought of him. But then he leaves. So suddenly he goes. Parting without a word. I don’t even see him go. Was he even here at all? I sink back under the water, wanting to go away for a while.
