What About My Future Decision....

It seems that my parents really do love and care about what is right for me. However, during many, many discussions of university options, and though I have voiced my own desire to attend a two-year college and then transfer to the university, it seems to go flat.

I really have thought about how I want to pursue my future in education and in the work that I plan to do after my BA degree. So, all I would like is more understanding and support of my decision, my life, my goals and my future!

I love both my parents and they do bring lots of exposure and choices to the table, but isn't it going to be me who has to put in the dedication and work to accomplish this goal!

Just want to do me, in the right way of course!

It's great that you've been thinking about your future and it seems to me that you've done your research on what is best for you!

You actually have made a really great choice in your desire to do a two-by-two program (two years at community college and another two at a four-year institution) because you can get a great education at a far less expensive cost than if you went to a private institution all four years.

I wonder why your parents are so hesitant to your decision. Do they have expectations of you attending a four-year university? Are they concerned about the major or career choice that they have? Have they said why they aren't fully supportive of your decision?

If you've done your research, which it seems like you have, you should present what you've found to your parents to show that you've thought this through and that you're not just making an unwarranted decision. Show them how you can, for example, save money through this plan or how you can get a better experience or how this program is something that's best for you.

I think you've got it figured out, now you've just got to show your parents how you know it! I'm sure that they'll come around to your decision.

I guess I don't understand your post - are your parents not wanting you to go to school? It sounds like you are motivated and have thought a lot about your future, which is great! And sometimes a 2-yr school is a better way to start, you can stay close to home and save $. Anyhow, props for being motivated and wanting higher education! I am still wrangling with my decision!
