My name is Elizabeth. I'm a high school sophomore debating my way to a scholarship.
I'm one of the youngest debaters on the team, but also the only girl. Don't ask me why, but none of the other debaters at my school are serious about their work. All they care about is winning, but they don't do the work in order to earn the win.
Being the only girl, no one on the team really respects me, even though I research and write everybody's case, file all of the paperwork, and frantically go way out of my way to get things done in order for all of us to compete.
But I've already had a few major wins, and I did really well last year as a first-year debater. So I'm determined to get a debating scholarship, no matter what it takes. I will surpass all obstacles, including dealing with my lazy teammates and the threat from the school board to shut down our department.
What I want to know is what you are doing to get a scholarship. Tell us your story and keep up the great effort.
