So I'm going to be a sophmore in highschool this year, and although it's still a long ways off, I know I need to start preparing myself now. I don't really know what I want to do with my life besides write. I love to write. Writing is my life. Its in my soul and I don't know how I would function without it. However, besides just writing I know I have to do something else with my life, but I just don't know what that is. I love the theatre. I love to cook, but with both of these options I have to ask myself, "Is there going to be enough time left over for my writing." I really don't know what to do or what classes to take...Anyone out there with some advice for me?

Omg! I am feeling the exact same way! I'm going to be a sophomore too :] I love to write, cook and love, love acting! But I have a really big passion for photography though. Photography is my way to view the world as I see it. My advice for you, if you love writing I say go for it! I was feeling the same way saying, oh I can't just do photography. So I looked into like nursing and other things, but I just don't get that same feeling. If writing is in your soul, then you know that you would love your classes in college and your job in the future!
Depending on your school, which ever "extra" classes your are allowed to take, take the the writing/literature ones. With me I'm taking yearbook and digital photography. Hope this helped! :]

Don't worry so much. You are only going to become a sophmore this year. You have more than enough time to figure out the rest of your life. Even in college, students don't know what they want to do for a while. Enjoy yourself and the time you have, and you will find what you want someday.

You have so much time to think about your future, ergo there is no need to worry! The way that I see it, is that you know something is right when you do not have to ask if it is right.

Hi Midnite,

How delightful that you love to write!  I've got an idea for you, one that will let you use your writing to begin to shape the life you want to build for yourself.

Let yourself drift into this writing project:

Describe in detail an ideal day, including the non-school parts.

A truly sun-streaked day.

A single day. Literally the absolute ideal day.

Think about your surroundings; the people you see; the work you do; the fun you have; what you see, hear, taste and touch; how you feel.

Write it in the kind of detail that leads you right into the space of that day. Write it so that you can feel it.

Try not to judge whether it's practical or possible or sensible. Just focus on describing a day that brings a smile to your lips.

Not only will you learn what makes you tick, you'll automatically start creating it, just by writing it down!

Good luck!
