Retta Green, a counselor at Glenda Dawson high school in Pearland, Texas is not just a great counselor; according to her student, Bofeng Chen, she “is superhuman.”
Despite the fact that she is assigned to about 400 students, Green still makes time to individually focus and advise each of them. Chen insists that she “is always thinking of how to help my college application…the help I’ve gotten from her has been invaluable.”
Green goes above and beyond for her whole school in addition to the students she advises. She organizes yearly college nights for students and parents and teaches them everything they need to know about applications, recommendations and financial aid. This event always generates a high turn-out and, according to Chen, “the crowd is always incredibly thankful for the information that Mrs. Green delivers.”
What makes Green an incredible counselor is the fact that her students know they can count on her as a reliable and helpful source for their future plans. She’s able to give personal advice to each and every one of her students, despite the large number that she is in charge of.
Chen summarizes Green’s strengths by saying, “With a radiant smile, [Mrs. Green] gives me advice…and encourages me to meet all my deadlines…I know of no one who cares more about my life after high school and beyond.”
