“Mrs. Hunt takes on her students as though she has the rest of their lives in her hands,” says
Erin Daubert, a student at Larkin High School in Elgin, Ill. “...[She is] someone who not only cares about them completing high school, but also cares about their future.”
Daubert nominated her school counselor, Jill Hunt, for Next Step Magazine’s Super Counselor contest.
To her students, Hunt is more than just a “super counselor.” “She takes on the roles of mentor, counselor, psychiatrist and friend,” says Daubert.
Hunt appreciates her students just as much as they appreciate her.
“I can honestly say that I truly enjoy my job, and I have the students to thank for that,” she says.
Helping students with issues beyond the classroom is what inspired Hunt to become a counselor.
“I felt that students’ concerns needed to be addressed to help them have a more successful and enjoyable school experience,” she says. “I look forward to opportunities to assist my students whenever possible.”
