Buyers beware!

Textbooks can be pricey, but they don’t have to be

Buyers beware!

Ok, so you’ve been accepted to school, you’re surviving the summer and you’re getting ready for that big move to your college campus with class list in hand. What do you do? Well, you can’t attend class without supplies, so it looks like you’re in the market for some textbooks. Buyers beware: textbooks come with no small price tag! Do yourself a favor and look into some cost-cutting tactics before you break the bank on books.

Where to buy books

The obvious place to begin your search is in your very own campus bookstore. For most of your classes, you will have the option to buy your books new. I’m certain some of you would rather get in, pay for the books regardless of the cost, and get out. But for those who are a little more cost conscious, make sure you check your bookstore for any used books for sale. You can save yourself a hefty amount of money by buying used books and, let’s be honest, used books work just as well as new ones.

Consider renting

If you feel like there is still more money to be saved, you can always look into checking books out from your local library. That is, if you don’t mind staying on top of your renewals and keeping the books in good shape for return. If the library doesn’t have what you need, then check into places near you that might offer textbook rentals. You won’t be able to write in the books if you go the rental route, but it is a less costly option than buying your books new. Then of course there is always old faithful - the internet. The internet has a vast majority of options for you, but specifically check out Ebay and Amazon and maybe even craigslist for a good deal on books. There are also other helpful websites that may offer you a good deal on books, both new and used. Just be sure to check out reviews to be sure the service is exactly what you are looking for.

Hopefully, you might find some of the books you need at a fraction of the price and some extra money rattling around in your pocket! Buying textbooks doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg; if you’re lucky, maybe just a finger or two.
