After a long time deliberating, you’ve decided to major in business. Now all that’s left to decide is what to do with that degree. Here are three business careers to consider.

Career idea: Entrepreneur
Average salary:
Varies

“It is never easy to be an entrepreneur, and that is why it requires a true passion for it,” says David Hauser, co-founder of Grasshopper, a business that provides phone services to entrepreneurs.

Entrepreneurs take risks by investing their time and money into an innovative idea. It can be a great deal of work, but ultimately, it can be gratifying.

To become an entrepreneur, Hauser advises, “find what you have a passion for, what you love to do, and figure out how you can make a business out of it. You do not need a perfect idea; just go out there and start something.”

Career idea: Public relations manager
Average salary:
$82,180

You’re on the phone organizing a dinner date with Mom and Dad, checking the updates on Facebook and jotting down notes for your upcoming history exam.

If this is a typical weekday, then a career in public relations (PR) is something to consider.

In PR, “What you know—education and on-the-job-training—are as important as who you know,” says Joan Cear, who works for public relations firm G.S. Schwartz & Co. Inc.

Heather Abdel-Salam, the public relations and marketing coordinator for the Society of Hospital Medicine, says, “To be successful in PR, you have to have an open personality and be able to think outside the box. Communicating with all types of people is a huge part of the job, so if you’re more of an introvert, it might not be the option for you.”

Career idea: Music marketer
Average salary:
$98,720

Music marketing consultant Jen Littleton oversees all aspects of musicians’ projects.

She coordinates with radio promotions staff, sales staff, publicists, video promotion, production and online marketing companies; procures licenses in TV and film; and oversees creative services, including photo shoots and album packages. Phew!

“In a lot of ways, I am the quarterback of a football team,” Littleton says. “I am the one making all of the plays (throwing the ball to different departments), but I still answer to the coach (band, label),” says Littleton.

Littleton has worked with bands such as Lifehouse, Sonic Youth, Weezer, and on the Bridget Jones’s Diary and Snow Day soundtracks.
